Exploring the values that drive pension reform

Our first dialogue, “The Pension Puzzle”, was held August 13, 2009 for delegates attending the federal NDP Convention.  Pension reform is quickly becoming one of the front burner issues in Canadian politics.  Our dialogue provided participants with an  opportunity to discuss the profound challenges facing Canadians, governments and businesses as pension funds struggle to adapt to the recent economic downturn and the aging demographics within the population.

To support the dialogue, Monica Townson prepared a background paper providing an overview of the issues, the shortcomings and the range of solutions for pension reform that have surfaced.   Monica also delivered a presentation to participants at the dialogue.  CLC researcher, Joel Harden also made a presentation and closing remarks were delivered by NDP Pension critic, Wayne Marston.   visit our resource page to view these elements.
